Auto Countdown: James Bond Cars

The James Bond franchise is known for a few things. One of those things is cars. The Bond cars are amazing machines loaded with awesome gadgets. In honor of 007, here are my top 7 James Bond Cars. To be considered, the car must be the main car for James Bond in a film. Each of the cars have something unique about them that put them on this list.

7. Sunbeam Alpine from Dr. No.

The Sunbeam Alpine is the original Bond Car. It was a convertible that was not altered by Q Branch. There are no fancy gadgets, but it is a beautiful car. Since it kicked off the Bond Car legacy, it kicks off this list at number 7.

6. BMW Z8 in the World is Not Enough

The BMW Z8 is a beautiful car. The Z8 has remote control driving capabilities, missile rockets hidden in the side vents and a navigation system. But the main gadget for the Z8 is its sonic laser, which allows Bond to listen to conversations in nearby buildings. Sadly, the car was sawed in half, even with titanium armor. Since it was destroyed by saws, it sits at the number six spot on this list.

5. Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante in the Living Daylights

Here is the first of the Aston Martins. The V8 Vantage Volante had some unique features to it. It had wheel-mounted lasers, signal intercepting smart radio, heads-up targeting display, guided missiles, and a self-destruct system. But the Vantage is best when it is on a snowy mountain. The car has outriggers for skiing. and if the Vantage needs to clear a gap, it has rocket booster.

4. Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day.

Here is the second of the Aston Martins used by 007. The Vanquish was loaded with gadgets and weapons. Four missiles were hidden in the grill. There were motion-sensing guns under the hood. The tires had spikes for ice driving. But the coolest thing about this car is that it can turn invisible. No other Bond car can do that.

3. BMW 750iL from Tomorrow Never Dies.

This car had some cool features. The car had self-inflatable tires, a wire cutter, missiles, and tear gas. But the coolest thing about this BMW is that it can be controlled remotely by a cell phone. Bond was driving the BMW while lying down in the back seat. Talk about back seat driving. The car can also withstand being hit with sledgehammers without a dent. Also, the cell phone has a built in taser.

2. Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me.

The Lotus Esprit is on this list for one reason, it turns into a submarine. The gadgets and weapons for the Esprit are good. The Esprit has rear firing mud sprayers, surface-to-air missiles, depth charges, underwater smokescreens, and torpedoes. The Esprit Turbo was featured in For Your Eyes Only, but it did not have the cool features that the Esprit in the Spy Who Loved Me had. There is only one Bond car that is better than the submarine Esprit.

1. Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger

Is there any doubt to what the best James Bond car is. The Aston Martin has been in Tomorrow Never Dies, Goldeneye, and Thunderball, but the Aston Martin DB5 was Bond's main car in Goldfinger. The Goldfinger DB5 is loaded with gadgets. It has twin machine guns in the front, a retractable bullet-proof screen in the rear, radar. It can also create oil slicks and smokescreens. It even has rotating license plates. But the main gadget is the ejector seat. Not even 007 himself believed Q when he brought up the ejector seat. Cool gadgets and being featured in multiple Bond films make the Aston Martin the best Bond car.
